Mixed media artist and educator, Chicago native Michael Trulis is determined to unearth the greater purpose of fine art. Armed with perhaps a well-worn philosophy on life, his constantly evolving and diverse approach to each piece is a uniquely abstract breath of fresh air. His style draws inspiration from nature, human struggle, environmental destruction, and just about every love song by the Beatles. Many of his pieces are built upon reclaimed wood with leftover, and seemingly unwanted art supplies. What are created are bold flashes of reality mixed with meandering hints of surrealism.

His artwork has been painted on, and displayed atop, empty walls all over Chicago with one goal in mind: a hope of providing those in need an avenue to express themselves in a positive and peaceful manner. A portion of each painting sold benefits the nonprofit charity Artists For Harmony.

Artists For Harmony is a grassroots, 501 (c)(3) charitable organization that focuses on the arts to help students proclaim their creative voice. AFH believes a confident child starts with an inventive mind.

AFH, which was cofounded by Trulis in 2004, believes that art can be created by all, yet individualized for one. Every child is unique, and their program strives to reach students on an independent level. Regardless of what challenges stand in their way, AFH welcomes all students to work together creatively, yet focus on their individual needs.
